I have been a Carbonite customer for 7 years. Every year my bill got automatically deducted from a credit card I had on file with them. During my last billing cycle they claim to have notified me that my credit card had expired, and as a result permanently terminated my account with my 33,000 files! I couldn't believe it when they told me this. When I asked them if they could resend their warning emails so I could see them with my own eyes, they said I'd have to take it up legally with their marketing department. I have never been so disappointed and dissatisfied as a customer in my entire life. The entire reason this business exists is to help people feel safe and secure about their information. They were completely resigned to the fact that there was nothing they could do to help me recover my files. They took my money for 7 years and I lost all my files. This should never happen to anyone. I'm in shock that they were so unhelpful!
Anyone who buys this product and has a MAC is out of their mind. A year ago I purchased a one year contract. There was an upgrade so I was told to download it. From that time on, my computer was so slow I was ready to trash it. The company blamed Comcast 1st and then Apple. Both of whom spent a lot of time with me before they said it was not them. After hours of time on the phone, I finally got rid of Carbonite program
Since then, the computer is like lightning. Despite having Emails to this company from day one they would only prorate my refund. The difference was only $50. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. This company is the worse. By the way, I have never in my life ever written one one these. That is how bad my experience was with them.

They bought Mozy, a reputable cloud backup service, then trashed the service; but charged more. It slows the computer drastically, on programs that have nothing to do with backing up. Try to cancel? Good Luck. There is no way to directly email or call them. No matter where you search on their "service" links, it a circular in responsive system. Then try to get a refund. I suggest filling a complaint with the BBB, and your States Attorney General.
Carbonite technical support agents are extremely limited in their technical support knowledge. They are only trained on carbonite's proprietary software. From personal experience, don't expect any assistance with regard to importing from any restored files they put back on your computer. THEY DON'T! THEY CAN'T! THEY WON'T PERIOD! Responses for requests for technical support is mostly 'boiler plate' jabber and nothing more. When an technical support agent can't help, they pass you off to another agent who mirrors what the prior agent says. Getting to a supervisor is near impossible. They don't respond to my inquiries. This is only one reason that cabonite gets less than 3 STARS in most online reviews.
Terrible software, buggy web site, limited and useless “Administrative” tools and capabilities. Each and every time I have had to restore more than one file from a back up I have run into frustrating limitations or outright failures.
Backup is simple and automatic. Want to restore? Good Luck! You can only restore 10G at a time and at a very slow rate. Need to restore the whole backup? Depending on the amount of data, as much as a month when your computer is unavailable to use. Support is horrible. They interrupt and don't listen. I had to repeat my email address 9 times because of that. You can expedite the restore with a hideously expensive service where they send you a disc. Wait time is high. I used the call back and they called but did not connect so I had to call back and wait. And further, if you do restore? You can't choose the date of the backup to restore. If you just select folders it can take as much as a year to get what you need because of the 10G backup limitation. USELESS Service that creates more problems than it solves.

My external hard drive was just about maxed out, along with my Imac hard drive. Carbonite was suggested to me by a friend who is a computer pro. The first thing that I did was purchase a 16 TB external hard drive, and then contacted Carbonite. Karen spent over an hour with me explaining what I had to do so that they, Carbonite, could access ALL of my data. Somehow, I messed up. I called her back, at which time she said to leave my computer on for a few days so that Carbonite could back up everything from all of my drives. I complied. She then called me and suggested that I order their hard drive for $100.00, which they would mail to me so that I could organize everything on my 16 TB drive. I did it, and have had no problems since then. Karen is not only knowledgable, but courteous and patient. I would recommend this to anyone needing space on their computer hard drive. They do everything that they claim....And do it right.
My complaint is not with the service itself but with their customer service. I have had Carbonite for about a decade now and haven't had any problems with the product itself. However, I felt like I had better options of saving my computer files so I decided not to renew my subscription. A couple of months before it was set to renew, I disabled the automatic renewal option so they wouldn't charge my card. Come time for my subscription to be renewed, they kept trying to charge my card. There was a temporary authorization, but it came off about 10 days later and I kept getting emails saying they couldn't charge my card. So I figured that was the end of it. I removed the software from my computer as well. A month later, after I ignored all their emails that my subscription was set to end and my files would be removed, I get another charge for $83.99 on my credit card, and this time it charged me. I tried removing my credit card info from their website and it won't let me. They say I have to add another credit card number to remove the one I do have on there. I contacted them for a refund but I have heard nothing. So while I'm filing a dispute claim with my credit card co, I decided to report my card as lost so I can get a new CC number and they won't charge the old number again. Like I said, I didn't have a problem with the backup service itself, but I don't like people messing with my money.
I'm singing the same song as all the other negative reviews. I have a MacBook Pro. Carbonite does incomplete backups. You have no way of knowing that unless you check. The whole point of the service is trust. It frequently stops backing up my computer. How would you know unless you check? I don't want to have to check. I have had to reinstall the software innumerable times. Why? I don't want to have to reinstall software. The files that are backed up are hard to navigate and work with. Of course when I requested a prorated refund for my three year plan I was told no, sorry, you're outside the 30 day refund policy. Bite me Carbonite. You suck.
Carbonite is the worst company I've ever dealt with. They backed up our data in the wrong format rendering it unusable when we needed it most they made a big mistake and their attitude was oh well too bad. There was no recourse and my company lost tens of thousands of dollars.

Been using Carbonite for years and was always glad I had it. That is until I needed it. It’s the weekend. My Outlook files are corrupted. No worries. I have Carbonite. However when I try to download the files I need it takes over an hour and 3/4 way though, download failed. Cannot get support because they only work Monday thru Friday. If you have important files, I urge going elsewhere.
I have 2 Mac's in the house. It took 3 months but I finally resolved the backup problem with one of them. Now the other one refuses to back up. I've gone thru their directions, and it backed up on time in a month. They want to have a remote session where they will take control of my computer--I don't think so. Requested a partial refund, got an emphatic no, we don't do that. Unfortunately I'm just going to have to bit the bullet and totally get rid of this so called back up. It just doesn't like and IOS operating system. Just get an external drive and use Time Machine, it does the same thing. And if you want a cloud based back up, use ICloud--you know that will work with a MAC.
